French learning
Your French Teacher

Bonjour,
My name is Marie. I am 58 years old and have 3 children, all adults now. I live with Yann, my husband, in a big house in Saint Bonnet de Mure, a cute little town near Lyon.
I took a new direction professionally after a period of expatriation in the USA where I was able to try learning English as a second language and at the same time teaching French at an Alliance Française to a diverse community. I adored it!
Studies as French Foreign Language Teacher (FLE, or FLES in French):
- FIFLE (Formation Initiale en FLE), University of Grenoble Alps (UGA-CUEF)
- CAVILAM Certificates, "Teaching French as a foreign language today", Discovery and Advanced Course at Alliance Française of Vichy (CAVILAM), a major, active pedagogical center in France.
- Master1, in Didactical languages course French as a Second Language, University of Grenoble Alps (UGA-UFR LLASIC)
Formal lessons: 15 hours, personalized, one-on-one
1.
Before you arrive, we will have already met each other via email (Video is also available). Our conversation will best determine your future course program and the formula you choose. The themes that interest you in particular will serve to support our lessons (cooking, travel, sports, hobbies, work, education…).
After establishing your level (through a short online test), your priorities, and your main interests, I will propose a personalized language program that we will build and approve together.
Don’t worry – whatever your goals may be, from writing to a greater comprehension and ease with conversation, your lessons will unfold in a friendly manner and the pleasure will be shared.
3.
Depending on your goals, each class may contain all 4 linguistic goals: oral comprehension (Listening), written comprehension (Reading), oral production (Speaking), written production (Writing).
Or if you prefer we can focus uniquely on one of these: for example, we can work particularly on oral expression, your pronunciation, French expressions, or grammar…
Generally-speaking, I promote learning based on oral communication and verbal exchange.
I use a wide variety of support techniques and documents, almost all authentic, daily materials often connected to current events (diverse videos, film excerpts, novels, French songs, radio and television shows, press articles, recipes, etc.)
I am very flexible and if you wish to discuss a particular subject or learn about something that isn’t planned prior to our meetings, I can always adjust our program for you.
2.
Classes will take place starting from 2 ½ hours per day (6 days a week).
We will work with my computer and a white board, but equally with diverse documents, and excerpts from methods of learning or grammar books that you can consult during your stay.
They will take place at my home, but it will be possible to review your learnings elsewhere (in a park, on the edge of a lake, in a bar, a museum, in another town…).
Linguistic and conversation-based activities
with guidance
Linguistic immersion implies that you will share my daily life as a French person.
From breakfast, we will be in the practice of guided daily conversation, and all day if you wish.
Outside of classtime (2 ½ hours/day), each day you will also have the option of working on oral French through various linguistic activities, according to the formula you have chosen, and always with a positive learning environment:
1
Basic formula
Linguistic activities around a certain theme, tied to the rhythms of French life, and the unfolding of an ordinary day, as, for example:
-The theme of food (vocabulary of food, grammar around food, describing one’s taste…) going food shopping together (to the supermarket, to the market of St Bonnet de Mure, to nearby stores), and through cooking (read a recipe and cook together if you like). -The theme of meeting people (how to introduce yourself, explaining your stay in France, your plans) while walking together in my neighborhood, visiting friends, meeting the family. -The theme of the news or of literature, watching news shows together, and going to buy newspapers at the news stand, or “tabac,” or finding our way to the town library. -The theme of the environment (vocabulary of places, buildings, how to ask for directions, get information..) while walking together in the town, or in Lyon, since this formula is included with an afternoon learning activite outdoors “Discovering Oldtown Lyon” where we will go out together using the public transportation of the city of Lyon (TCL). ...
2
Formula +
Basic formula + 2 extra language activities of your choice (half-day or full day), for example:
- Lyon museums: Confluence, des Beaux-Arts, of the Resistance, of Fabric, of Canuts, the Institut Lumière (Lyon is a center for global cinema), of the Printing Press… - Lyonnais Gourmet: The Markets of Paul Bocuse, the “bouchons” (small historical restaurants), the Museum of Gastronomie, a cooking workshop with a chef, a wine-tasting room, a Beaujolais cellar, the cellars of Chartreuse (Voiron), a cheese-tasting… - Lyon neighborhoods: Old Lyon, The Presqu’île, The Red Cross … - Religious monuments: The Basilica of Fourvière, The Cathedral of St. Jean, The Royal Monastery of Brou (Bourg en Bresse), The Monastery of the Grand Chartreuse, the Abbey of Hautecombe (Lac du Bourget)… - National history: the roman theaters of Lyon and Vienne, Guignol and the history of the Canuts, the history of the silkmaking industry in Lyon, the medieval villages around Lyon (Crémieu, Oingt, Pérouges) … - Surrounding villages: Annecy, Grenoble, Chambéry, Aix les Bains, Villefranche-sur-Saône… ...
